I'm not saying it's the case for everyone, but like I've said before on here, when people dont have prospects, or when people dont have money, or when people dont have a job (to take their mind of thinking), then they're not going to turn out too great are they?

Similarly, when people have been brought up in families where their best memory of being a kid is the time their dad and his mates nicked a sheep so their families could eat...well they cant be blamed if they grow up not being law abiding citizens either can they?

A recent programme I watched about East Germany contrasted how, because of widespread unemployment, lots of the boys were getting drunk, joining far-right groups and setting out on a path of crime etc, the girls on the other hand seemed to be getting their heads down, studying and moving to jobs elsewhere. No doubt the teenagers there blame what they do on the increasing shortage of "prospects", perhaps the prospect of ever having a girlfriend.

Background, chances, circumstance, influence a lot of things, but at the end of the day there is still a thing called free will.


Edit: as a postscript I would say this shocks me more, a woman inflicting such cruelty on her own handicapped daughter:

I don't know what to say about this crime other than these men, if convicted, should never be allowed to walk as free men ever again

Legal aid, HR lawyer, a Playstation, a comfy cell and when they are released a new identity and a life on benefits await these citizens.

Yep, prisons are full of people who were either born under, or destroyed under, the lovely tories.

Of course, I might have known it wasn't the criminals fault. You sound like a feckin scouser!

If you willfully do bad things its your fault, not the tories or the socialists. And if what you do is bad enough, into prison you must go.

BTW "destroyed under"? Do me a favour! By all accounts the whole of the country would of been "destroyed" if it wasn't for some hard choices made after the previous regime.

Saw this in the news also. The kind of persons who did this to this beautiful little girl dont deserve to be called humans. There is no excuse for such barbaric deed. Lock them up and throw away the keys so that they dont do this again to anybody else.

One thing that is disgracefull about our legal system is had he not killed the girl he would have been out in 18 months. Had he robbed a post office he'd be looking at 5-10. Money is more important then life in the eyes of the law.
