        Govt did not create such nation - they inherited it (like all previous Govts) and it’s their job to maintain it.

          Apparently the PM does have to pay something on the flat. I heard it mentioned in passing on the radio yesterday/day before but the only reference I can find at the moment is from when Brown was PM:

          The Prime Minister insisted he had to pay council tax on the flat in No11 Downing Street. The top rate in Westminster is £1,375 a year.

          Mr Brown, whose salary is £194,250, also makes a payment for the grace-and-favour home, as a taxable benefit in kind, which covers utility bills.
          The PM can choose to live in No.11 (which is bigger) or No.10
