    DOOM: The Third Wave

It’s happening, again: infections going up, clearly people got more relaxed and schools play their role in spreading, with cretinous leader Boris and Covid Research Group of Tory Scum we are doomed to experience the third wave very soon.

    Buckle up and stay safe.

It is worth noting that two doses of AZ are only around 10% effective in stopping the SA variant. I do hope we don't repeat last summer, let our guard down and have to go through the whole thing again. SA variant is apparently around 5% of cases in parts of Europe now, but not rising in relative terms. That might change if it gets a foothold in the UK, and finds itself with a competitive advantage because of the high AZ vaccinated population.

Not surprised; I was at the doctor's surgery on Monday when a chap in his 30s came to the reception saying that he just returned from a skiing holiday in Italy and he is feeling ill. He claimed he did not understand that isolating for 10 days meant he should stay at home. He said no-one stopped or questioned him at Heathrow.

Currently a few US variants and a couple of Indian variants are being monitored to see how infectious they are.

So it may not be the return of a mutated Kent variant coming back to us or even the SA variant.

Also a small minority of people are having Covid twice.

Anyway ignore Rishi so you aren't in an office next autumn and stay safe.

I would be worried if Kent, Brazilian, S. African, American all variants combine with each other

Yeah, which country could we blame for that?

Boris Johnson: UK is on course to follow ‘road map’ out of Covid restrictions

Boris Johnson said today he can see nothing in the data to dissuade him from continuing along his lockdown “road map to freedom”.

The prime minister insisted that easing the lockdown restrictions in England would be guided by data rather than dates.

Speaking at the Conservatives’ virtual spring forum today, Johnson said there is “absolutely nothing in the data to dissuade me from continuing along our road map to freedom, unlocking our economy and getting back to the life we love”.

Virus hotspots could lead to third Covid wave in UK, scientists warn

""Leading scientists warned last night that the government was risking a third wave of Covid-19 by easing the lockdown at a time when official data still shows virus hotspots across many parts of the country.

With the UK poised to lift many Covid restrictions on Monday, the scientists accuse ministers of abandoning their promises to “follow the data, not dates” in a rush to reopen society and the economy.

A more cautious, sensible approach would be to wait until more among the tens of millions of people who have yet to be inoculated have had their vaccinations, they say. In addition, they point out that without an adequate system for isolating people who become infected, there could be significant rises in daily Covid cases that could erupt over the next few weeks.

Stephen Griffin, of Leeds University medical school, told the Observer: “There are areas in West Yorkshire, the Black Country and other regions that still have high infection rates. However, many people there cannot afford to self-isolate. We need to tackle that issue urgently or the virus will come back again.”

The government has said it would not lift restrictions until infection levels are low enough but Griffin said that its promise to follow “data not dates” now appeared to have been abandoned."

There are plenty of people around who can see how a virus spreads.

Unfortunately none of them are in government.

If we get a third wave hopefully this government is done for especially if it causes younger people who are key workers to end up with long Covid.
