NZ is generally much easier to get into than Oz. Once you have permanent residency there you can also live in Oz.

It's always an option if the Aussie immigration authorities start getting difficult.

And there are *occasional* sunny days in NZ too, so it's not all bad.
I'm not so think as you drunk I am...

I'd love to go to NZ as an alternative but I reckon I'd have real emplyment difficulties with my dire skill set.

I'm hoping my application should be pretty straight forward. I've already got a positive skills assessment and there are no complications on my visa application... i'm under 30, single, no dependants, no criminal record, no medical complications... it's just about as uncomplicated as it can get! (hopefully!)

Where are you based like Janey?

Do you think you'll be able make it out on Friday? We coud sack off the pub crawl idea and just get sat in a pub with your foot propped up on a stool all night?

Ah - this has just answered my questions! I really should learn to read all of the posts before replying

You can sleep in sasguru bedsit in Stratford. Yes, he shares it with other 6 eastern european men.

from what I understand it's pretty difficult to just apply for roles without having a valid visa... no one has given me the time of day that's for sure! they've all said to get back to them once my visa comes through... but then that could be my cr@ppy skill set.

I think there are some contracting type companies that "sponsor" you i.e they will sponsor your visa to be in Oz and officially be your employer however you have to find your own contracts etc but I suspect they will take a cut of your earnings (and that's after the cut the recruitment agent has taken).

I'm not sure how it all works tho so don't quote me on it!

I'm just going for a straight forward independent skilled migration visa. it's not the cheapest or quickest way to do things. if you're under 30 you can get a working holiday visa which will entitle you to stay in Oz for 12 months and work at any one place for 6months max.
