It's funny, earlier on in the week I said to Mrs Lucifer on hearing of the re-arrest of Lord Levy and seeing the papers wetting themselves over it in the morning, "expect to see some big anti-terrorist bollox on the news tomorrow".

I'm not sure whether she listened or not. I think she was watching EastEnders.

      Confused

I am a bit confused about all this.

If you look at this logically as oppossed to theologically, what does "Al-Quaeda" or any other fundementalist Muslim group have to gain from from kidnapping and torturing a Muslim British soldier.

Surely this would only further alienate mariginal sympathisers from the UK muslim community? It makes no political sense to do this. If they kidnapped and tortured a white UK figurehead/politician they would incite a total collapse of multiculturalism and a race war which would buy them far more converts than killing a fellow muslim

Unless it was just a bunch of hotheads trying to emulate the "holy warriors" in Iraq. Which would mean it is about the same as same kid in Idaho playing Grand Theft Auto and then mowing down a whole bunch of people with an Uzi in his home town.

Maybe this is more about disaffected youth than terrorism?

At the moment there is no proof of any of the allegations anyway and we have been down this road before? Huge publicity, sealed of streets, 24 hour news coverage and then a few weeks later they release all suspects without charge and compensation to shut up.

Not sure about this one yet, but if I had to take a stab in the dark it will all blow over with no significant charges. Maybe they will find porn on a computer again?

      Anyway lets see

        To the confused:

They chose a Muslim who is a soldier to make a point.
There is nothing logical to these chaps, only a twisted take on Islam.

Basically they see this guy as an ex-Muslim, a worse person than an infidel. Someone who knows the true way but has chosen to turn his back on it.
They are sending a message to other Muslims who may not be behind the cause that you are either with us or against us, you can no longer sit on the fence.
Probably in the hope of radicalisation of the Muslim masses due to fear.

IMO. At the same time as using their religious beliefs to invent a cause they are ignoring a lot of other teachings and are infact (ironically) turning their backs on the teachings of Islam.
The radicals will win, purely because they are driven.
I am not qualified to give the above advice!

Sunnysan, I agree, you've expanded on what I said earlier. This is news manipulation. How the feck can anyone know what is really going on with a government like this?

Tell you what, they never said a minister was the target because too many people would sympathise with the terrorists!

Isn't that what David Cameron said when he addressed the muslims in brum? The battle lines are being drawn and the community is getting more divided, Its the elders who are shocked by all this whilst the youngsters feel more marginalised and instantly jeer the police for arresting there brothers rather than show any sign of abhorrence.
Science isn't about why, it's about why not. You ask: why is so much of our science dangerous? I say: why not marry safe science if you love it so much. In fact, why not invent a special safety door that won't hit you in the butt on the way out, because you are fired. - Cave Johnson

TLG, perhaps you can clear something up for me. My (I think wrong) understanding was that the general belief from the Koran was you became an infidel by rejecting Allah (and then you are fair game for death). I thought it was only some of the more radicals that extended this.

It is a bit difficult to interpret as I am not a Muslim, but most of the Koran is indifferent to infidels. However those who have turned from the path are to be put to death, so there does seem to be a stronger hatred for those who have rejected Islam.

This is only my opinion developed from reading the Koran and some of the Hadith.

The terrorist are really going about this the wrong way. These spectaculars, as they used to be called in the IRA days, create images that isolate them from the daily lives of the population. This in fact makes them easier to fight. Bombs in the capital or kidnappings are rallying points for the state too.

If *** I *** was doing this I would use the democratic process against the politicians. For example, each member of the cabinet is fundamentally an MP and MP’s can be deselected or voted out. If each member of the cabinet had his own constituency attacked with the clear message to the voters and party workers there that the attacks would continue on the population until the MP changed their activities or they were no longer an MP though being deselected or voted out, then the terrorists would find that they would have more effect for less effort. Above all else, an MP desires power. To gain power over them you need to attack the source of that power, specifically their own voters and party structure.

I am in one seriously bad mood today!

I’m not saying that the latest anti-terrorist activity ISN’T a smokescreen to divert attention from B’Liar’s other problems, but wouldn’t it be easier just to eliminate Yates of the Yard, or just scare him off. It would be easier to arrange for kiddie porn to be found on his computer than to make up this story in Birmingham.
