Young Muslims want Sharia Law in UK

No doubt this article will be 'racist' or 'non-representative' or something but if it is representative of young muslims in the UK I do wonder why they want to continue living here. I am not sure I believe the hype about trying to turn GB into an Islamic state but I do question the desire of people to live in a country who's traditions, laws and way of life are so abhorrent to them. Perhaps one of you lot knows why Sharia law is so appealing??????

If the UK by any chance (very remote I hope)agrees to give the right to a criminal to choose which law to be prosecuted with. May be as an exchange all westerners in Islamic countries can choose to be prosecuted using the English law??

Anyway just think, beheading paedophiles and other sex offenders, stoning adulteresses, cutting hand or any other limp for stealing.. the home office problem for prison space is solve overnight

uslim clerics preach that muslins should go and live in western countries and their shear numbers will change the regime. The clerics further tell them that they have a right to take back the resources from countries such as Great Britain because Great Britain has robbed their countries in the past.

This argument comes up time and time again when I speak with muslins.

Especially the oil technology, they didn't steal anything from the 'evil west' there did they ?

I think Sally, before you dismiss it quite like that, you should take a look at the various reasonably impartial studies on what Islam really means in some 55+ countries.

Sure, Iran and Saudi are fortunately not typical and the majority are "tolerant" in that Christians and Jews can worship, provided they do not do it too publicly or try and convert Muslims but it is tolerance strictly on their terms and by their decree, others have no say in the direction of society. For those deemed to be apostate or heretic within the Muslim faith life is hard indeed. Have a look at what happens in Egypt or Pakistan.

Shariah law is the most appalling idiocy, bad enough basing the rules for a civilised society in enormous detail on what someone said or was supposed to have said 1100 years ago, but even worse when the role model was not even a good one by the standards of his time. Certainly there is a lot wrong with our society but if you look at the violent nature of countries like Pakistan (although I do not say that is due to Islam) it is clear that Islam is no solution. We at least have the flexibility to modify our laws and our society to try and make them work.

I'm not really dismissing it Xog, it's just that everyone seems to get their knickers in a twist everytime some survey like this comes out.

Without seeing the entire survey, and to be fair without speaking to the kids and understanding why they want Shariah law, it seems daft to jump to conclusions.
Are we immediately assuming all these 16-24 year old know Shariah law inside out? Is it not possible they know a few of those laws which would benefit their age group? Is it not possible that like most teens, they havn't really thought it through? They're clearly not getting these ideas from their parents, and I wouldn't for one minute think many of them know the law BETTER than their parents.
Its probably just cool?
Or they're probably just sick to feck of being called terrorists and want he country to change as much as possible. Doesn't mean its ever going to happen though.

If the older people in the survey had said the same, then I'd sit up and listen a bit more I guess. But their votes were in the decline weren't they?

I think you will find that the answer lies somewhere in understanding the teenage and young adult mind.

It is in the natural, biological nature of young adults to experience a period where they are trying to identify their self and their worth in society.

In to this mix, comes a rebellion against most things they took for granted or accepted prior to their turbulent period.

They will say and do things deliberately to shock their peers, as a form of conscious objection. There is a belief, that by forming such strong opinions, and asserting them, they are casting off the shackles of parental conformance, and saying "Hey...I have different views. I don't follow what you spoon-feed me anymore. I can think for myself. Ergo, I must be an adult."

The irony, of course, is delightful.

It's almost as if, Kevin the Teenager, having tried to be grown up and taken seriously, decides that the only way left for him to have a voice is to join the local Hezbollah Scout Movement and blow up the local playground.

Ok...so now the stakes are much higher of course, now that radical religious extremism has entered the mix.

In my day, the only way to upset my parents and present counter-views to goad them was to say things like "I'm going off to see a band tomorrow night in London" (when I was 14), or "Slayer is meant to be played at 10 on the Hi-Fi", or "I'll do my homework after playing D&D with my mates".

No doubt, there are a few mods, hippies and rockers on the board prior to my era (1980's punk/new wave and metal), but I suspect you we're not radicalised by your music or peers to the extent of wanting to impose a new legal system on the majority or behead them.

Hmmm...what were our fathers doing in the 40's ? Forming hard gangs of Glenn Miller bovva boyz, looking for fights down the park with the Big Band Brothers ?

Or what were our grandfathers doing in the 1900's ? Forming posses of Flanagan and Allen groupies and cycling down to Margate to pick on the Punch & Judy Clubs ?
