I think one has to consider the psychological effects on the child. I know for a fact that it isn’t permitted to name a child Adolf in Germany.
It all reminds me of an incident that a lay preacher at my local Kirk related to me a few years ago. The priest was preparing for the christening of a baby boy with his parents. When he enquired as to what they were going to name the child his heart sank as he sensed an awkward dilemma.
They were going to name him Peter Ian. The family name was Gordon.
Fortunately they hadn’t seen the problem with this and immediately changed the Christian name to Brian once it had been drawn to their attention.
Well, they were from Mallaig. You’ve got to laugh
