Yes, of course it's appalling from our perspective but you can't rewrite or ignore history. In fact even these protestors' scant knowledge of that history is what allows them to understand how bad slavery is.

But the US culture is infinitely more racist and more deeply embedded than anything over here. Trying to equate the two is the real nonsense.
I don't think it matters, society is changing and feelings are paramount. If enough people feel offended by something or are vocal enough then anyone opposed to their view is shouted down.

It makes for good Instagram posts.

If we want IR35 changed, we should get a mob together and pull down some statues. Or at least get the butlers to do it for us.

Based on that logic, Germany should still have all the Nazi insignia and status in place as that reflects the history of the period. But society changes and things become offensive and should be removed.

Why there are still giant statues of slave traders in public if it offends millions of people, what good does it do? Make more sense to create a museum of racism and stick them there as reminders of how society has improved.

Can't find a reliable source on weight but some sites are putting around 110kg, or 17st

A 6ft 4 guy, 17st is quite an intimidating presence. When he has all this in his system:

"Toxicology (see attached report for full details; testing
performed on antemortem blood specimens collected 5/25/20 at
9:00 p.m. at HHC and on postmortem urine)
                A. Blood drug and novel psychoactive substances screens:
                1. Fentanyl 11 ng/mL
                2. Norfentanyl 5.6 ng/mL
                3. 4-ANPP 0.65 ng/mL
                4. Methamphetamine 19 ng/mL
                5. 11-Hydroxy Delta-9 THC 1.2 ng/mL;
                Delta-9 Carboxy THC 42 ng/mL; Delta-9 THC 2.9 ng/mL"

Interesting that it's hardly mentioned, but he was potentially still suffering lingering aftereffects of a coronavirus infection.

Terrible turn of phrase but it's not as simple as er, black and white.

How about gifting them to Nige Farage and he can put them in his back garden?

I like the idea they go into a museum after consultation. democratic and fair.

Can we shift Nelson Mandela's statue to a Museum him being a convicted terrorist and all?

Mandela responded to the ban by going underground in 1961 to found the ANC’s armed wing, the Umkhonto we Sizwe, which means “Spear of the Nation” in Zulu. He spent the next year travelling throughout Africa and Europe, studying guerrilla warfare and building support for the ANC abroad.
Mandela would later say in an interview that the ANC’s armed struggle “was forced on us by the government.”

You just have to look at the Confederate flag business in the USA to see that there are people who are unwilling to make a single concession. This is all similar enough.

                    They lost. Get over it.

Make a case for the Mandela statue if it bothers you, but be careful not to fall into false equivalence.
