    200,000 civil servants to go on strike on Jan 31st. If 200,000 people are needed by HMRC is really does show you how rubbish they really are.

    I remember last time they were threatening strike action, one pratt came on five live moaning that people don't understand how much work is involved.......yes only 'cos they genrate so many useless forms and regulations

      And to think we ran the Empire on 2000 civil servants. Entire colonies used to be run by two political agents & a couple of secretaries (plus several regiments of infantry, of course - much more efficient)

        The Romans ran a state as large as the EU with approximately 200 permanent civil servants. And income tax was only 2% with a very high starting threshold.

            Slightly different now though cause if you dont get your tax returns in these days you gont get a legion led by maximus knocking on your back door!
