I knew about the bombing. Schaffhausen, which is where my daughter-in-law is from, probably was an accident. But Basel and Zürich...well the jury is out. I didn't know about the Swiss airforce actually engaging the Allied and Axis powers. Schaffhausen even now only has a population of about 80000. Tiny place.
War's a bit crap. Bad things happen, compromises are made. Oerlikon manufactured ammunition for the Germans. Not entirely surprising when you're a country a few million farmers surrounded by one side of a war. You've gotta trade with someone.
Neutral does not mean pacifist.Down with racism. Long live miscegenation!Comment

A lot of the small neutral countries could better be described as non-belligerent, assisting the side they were geographically closest to. Sweden assisted the Axis powers economically. Ireland assisted the Allies (despite de Valera's condolences to the German government of the death of Hitler).Originally posted by ladymuck View PostPah. Neutral my arse.
In both cased, easy enough to understand.
