“ Premier League players have been told that clubs estimate they could lose £1.137 billion over the coronavirus crisis suspension, as talks descended into deadlock over a 30 per cent paycut which has invited staunch opposition from the players’ union.

It came on the same day that Liverpool were criticised by Jamie Carragher for becoming the latest Premier League club to furlough non-playing staff.

As the dispute over a paycut intensified, Gordon Taylor, the chief executive of the Professional Footballers’ Association (PFA), said that players taking wage cuts could impact the tax yield for the NHS.”

Oh right, yeah so the union's first concern is the tax take.

I am amazed they are not happy with just 30% cut, starting offer really should have been same offer non-playing staff got

Sponsors were smart enough to have contracts done in such a way that lack of performance (game) means no money, pretty insane player contracts re not the same.

Supposedly Lionel Messi and the Barca stars have accepted a 70% cut.

Then again they don't play in the self-styled "most competitive League in the world" that Liverpool are currently 25 points clear at the top of.

They also won’t be happy with new income tax rate that is coming very soon

Gordon Taylor has been on the take for the last 40 years.

Said he would step down from the PFA, still there I see.

I look forward to your all knowing and likely sarcastic and unhelpful reply.

Credit to Manchester United players who agreed a 30% cut before the idea was floated.

Shame on Liverpool, Newcastle and Spurs jumping on the government furlough scheme.

The chunts at Premier League HQ are talking about "we must finish the season or it'll cost us £xxxxxxxx" - just feck off, as much as fans are missing it, football really is not important right now.

“ Wayne Rooney has criticised the government and Premier League for putting Britain’s top-flight footballers in a “no-win situation” over the issue of pay cuts, with Gary Lineker and Gary Neville also speaking out.

Writing in the Sunday Times, Rooney claimed his fellow professionals were being lined up as “easy targets” in the wider response to the coronavirus crisis, and branded government criticism of players “a disgrace”.”
