It's just become a huge vanity project for large companies, the super wealthy, and Macron.
Factbox: Donors pledge over 700 million euros to rebuild Notre-Dame cathedral - Reuters
Many cathedrals have had a variety of fires and rebuilds over the years. It's inherent in having a building for getting on for 1,000 years. They were vanity projects then, at the rebuilds, and now.
It matters not that it might have some modern bits (they all do). It matters not that people may care less, or more. I just don't want to hear about it any more, until it's finished.
Oh. and the Catholic Church should pay FFS.See You Next TuesdayComment

If people / companies want to pay for it then crack on, if the majority of the populus agree on a tax for it crack on. if the UK government offers "aid" for it then I will complain.
But I find it strange that these companies did not step up and give their money when they were looking to repair / maintain the building, as someone said on the radio- its a bit like a distant relative dying: in life you ignored them but in death they become the most amazing person - humans are odd!Growing old is mandatory
Growing up is optionalComment

Don't think too many would accuse him of being a religious freak. There is a difference between the Christian religion and Christian culture.
