For future reference, this is the context in which my comment was made "individuals who deliberately ignore or disregard important information or facts".
100s of millions will be spent to restore a building for religious freaks who believe in an imaginary sky fairy. Money that could have been spent on much better things

And if that offers comfort to those in need of it then you'd deprive them of that comfort? That's rather selfish of you, don't you think?

Many cathedrals have had a variety of fires and rebuilds over the years. It's inherent in having a building for getting on for 1,000 years. They were vanity projects then, at the rebuilds, and now.
It matters not that it might have some modern bits (they all do). It matters not that people may care less, or more. I just don't want to hear about it any more, until it's finished.
If people / companies want to pay for it then crack on, if the majority of the populus agree on a tax for it crack on. if the UK government offers "aid" for it then I will complain.
But I find it strange that these companies did not step up and give their money when they were looking to repair / maintain the building, as someone said on the radio- its a bit like a distant relative dying: in life you ignored them but in death they become the most amazing person - humans are odd!

nothing odd. Just a lot more free press with a burnt down cathedral than a shabby one.

Richard Dawkins on Twitter about Notre Dame: 'This is terrible news. One of the world's outstanding architectural treasures.'
Don't think too many would accuse him of being a religious freak. There is a difference between the Christian religion and Christian culture.
