Great bit of investigative journalism - scam calls.
Go and read the story. Maybe get help with some of the bigger words. The people being scammed here are not being scammed by exploiting their greed or dishonesty, but through exploiting their fear. Since this is often HMRC's tactic, you can understand why people might fall for it.
A neighbour of mine was called by one of these bastards.
At first she was confused and frightened; her husband always dealt with such matters and he died last year (pancreatic cancer) so she had no idea.
What saved her was a touching faith in England and the English (she is Iranian) – when the scrote started threatening to have her arrested if she so much as dared to put the phone down she told them that this is England, it is a civilised country, that is not how business is done here and put the phone down.
