Due a new motor soon and looking for a good compact/crossover SUV. X1 has good reviews - anyone got/driven one or can recommend anything better in the same category with decent MPG and a bit of oomph?

Definitely ticks the box of "compact"
If you're anywhere near 6ft tall and sitting in the front, either no one sits behind you, or your knees are round your ears. Also standard spec is fairly chronic.

The problem with a new Beemer is you need to spend about £5k on the options - and almost everything is an option.
