British Gas owner Centrica to cut 5,000 jobs

I started my career with British Gas (the original British Gas*) back in the late 80's. At that point we had over 100,000 staff. Centrica now has 27,000. It's been getting smaller for decades due to various reasons.



* The original BG included the gas transmission arm and the retail arm (now gone ... but who remembers the British Gas showrooms ). During the forced break up in the early-mid 90's I ended up in Transco - those were the days
