    Paddington on £35k

Got into an argument with a PIMP this morning.

He said that he had a job in Paddington for £35k to which I responded that there is no way I could afford to live within a reasonable distance on that. (I.e. within an hours commute) and that if I did the buying a house would be out of the question.....and you all knows I hate renting.

Anyone got an idea of rail card costs / housing costs near london so I can prove to him that taking a 20k paycut and a move to the most expensive place in the country is not a good idea.

He's at my current agents so I can tell him to go screw as he's just lined up an extension for me.

Edit: ust turning this into a rant......he should see my current rate and know that I am going to turn this down so why ask me in the first place grrrrrrrr .......

FFS, I wouldn't even argue with him. Just say "do you know how much it costs to run two Gallardos these days?"

Just goes to show work doesn't pay. Why don't you join the speculation economy and become a property developer?

Assuming that you don't have a family to house you can buy a one bed within walking distance of Slough station for 125K. A three bed will cost you 180K.

ISTM that you don't actually find many properties out in the sticks for very much less. This "Living within commuting distance of London is unaffordable" lark is a falacy. What people mean is "I can't live in an up market area within commuting distance of London". Slough may not be the nicest place in the world, but it's only dingy, it isn't unsafe.

You don't have to justify yourself to him. If the moeny is not worth it then tell him. Pick a rate you would be happy with and tell him you'll do it for that.

I'd love to know how they place people into these types of roles. On that rate, after tax you'll be pulling in about 2k a month. You'll struggle to rent let alone buy on that salary in that location
Rule Number 1 - Assuming that you have a valid contract in place always try to get your poo onto your timesheet, provided that the timesheet is valid for your current contract and covers the period of time that you are billing for.

              I preferred version 1!

Yes it is bad and it is Versace.

Argh he just keeps phoning me....

Although they are not prepared to be "flexible" on the location

                  Still no rate increase though
