Well it would have been if they'd done them 20 years ago instead of the crappy prequel trilogy, when Ford, Hamill, and Fisher were still in their prime. They could have done pretty much what they're doing in the new trilogy, but with a more youthful original trio to offer a better transition than a load of geriatrics that are too old to be relatable to when the fans last saw them on screen.
I suppose like many successful music artists they think they're better than what made them successful and only go back to their roots when they're too old and decrepit to make it work anymore. Though in this case maybe George Lucas was just as much to blame for the lack of Skywalker sequels when they made more sense.
So when they finally decide to milk the franchise some more, they come up with some weak transition story to cash in on the older fans.
