His Dad had sent him away to the UK as he wasn't sure what would happen if his son stayed at home.
Very smart and resourceful chap and I did help him out with a lot of good advice, especially with what to study and generally how to work in the UK etc. but being young at the time also a lot of less good advice as well.
Hopefully a "balanced" education.
