One to is too much for some people. Two to's is obviously far too much.

Over use of the word 'To' as well by the way.
My oh my you're a helpful soul!

I can see why your "CUK Personality of the year!!! 2001!!! has lapsed.

A bit like when you see a run down pub with "CAMRA Pub of the year 1998"on a faded banner.

Like it says in the sticky, your clearance lapses the moment you leave the role for which it was granted. As a convenience for all parties, it will remain on file for one year during which time it may (and I stress "may") be reactivated without re-vetting. Or it may not.

The clearance is granted for 10 years for permies and five for contractors. That does not override the above though.

You will not get clearance if you've not got five years UK residency (or residency in some limited number of overseas locations or on active service) but that doesn't mean going abroad kills your ability to be cleared. It all depends how well the other country manages its security (Sweden and Ireland probably not a problem, Libya or the Yemen probably a big one).

As I keep saying it's a risk assessment for a specific set of circumstances. That's why there are no black and white answers. And why a lot of discussion about clearance is actually pretty pointless.

What sort of clearance would I have had back in 1995? They just asked if I minded being cleared and I said no and it sort of happened. I was young and clueless and had no interest so my recollection is dim.

It was in the nuclear industry, and also weapons grade err, products. It’s on the internet too now so not that secret!

Particularly nonsensical are those sensitive communication projects for UK clients that are developed here in Germany. UK colleagues are DV and I'm sat in the same room without. Mind you there was 30 page NDA for me to sign but otherwise nadda...

Don't look at their screens otherwise they will have to kill you....

I was on a site like that in the UK two years ago where they did minimum clearance on me but extensive on everyone else. I even went into the server room a few times on my own as I was looking for someone....

When I was on the nuclear site uncleared I was escorted everywhere, even to the shiitter where I’d sit and do my business while he stood outside.

Got to the stage we’re I had one in the morning before work, corked the rest up during the day, and released the payload in the evening at home...
