Owned up and paid to rectify the damage by a recognised outfit. Being grateful someone owned up and left you with a bill? I don't think so.'CUK forum personality of 2011 - Winner - Yes really!!!!

Doesn't change anything. You've caused it. Pay up. No excuses.Originally posted by rl4engc View PostJust to put some further details, there's no time or grief.
1) The guy is retired, he just sits staring out of his window all day, he doens't commute anywhere or do anything exciting with it. It just sits on the road all day.
2) It's a scratch, we've not written off his car or made it undrivable.
3) The company who quoted the 300-350 said it's a two day job, they collect and return it and courtesy car in the meantime.
4) It's not some back street garage with alsations kept in cages on site and big steel gates. It's a small body repair shop with 45 years experience and all work fully guaranteed, and even a money back guarantee if he doesn't like the job.
PS any talk about "The paint has to come from Honda to guarantee it matches" it absoulte tulip, as we confirmed this with both repair shops.'CUK forum personality of 2011 - Winner - Yes really!!!!

Exactly. That's what we've offered to do.Originally posted by northernladuk View PostOwned up and paid to rectify the damage by a recognised outfit.
A recognised outfit doesn't have to be the main dealer.
A recognised outfit is one that's a member of whatever industry scheme they're covered by, do insurance work, do work for main dealers (they do for Ford) etc.
How many people take their cars to the main dealer for out of warranty servicing, repairs, oil changes, tyres, wiper blades?
You might as well walk in with a barrel and couple of strong cable ties. And no lube.

I can see your point, but it's really up to the old boy to call the shots. If you think he's 'sticking his hand in' and it bothers you that much then go via the insurance route.Originally posted by rl4engc View PostSo will any accidental damage that may or may not occur at some given point in the future. Shopping trolleys etc.
He's basically saying "I want you to pay Hondathrough the nosefor the repairs." we're saying "we want to pay this authorised body repair shop, with an 18 month guarantee, money back guarantee if you don't like it, with 45 years experience, half the price of what Honda charga, and do as good as if not a better job".
You asked what we would do. I would take the extra £300 on the nose for a quiet life. You've got to live near these people and £300 is nothing in the scheme of life. Pi55ing off neighbours just isn't worth the grief nor is going via an insurance company.Comment

Some people do though - they are just scared of other garages.Originally posted by rl4engc View PostExactly. That's what we've offered to do.

Depends on what you are driving as well. If it's a fairly pricey can it can be worth it just to keep the log book looking good. Marque cars particularly... But anyway it isn't the OP's call. It's a reasonable request so that's that.Originally posted by SueEllen View PostSome people do though - they are just scared of other garages.'CUK forum personality of 2011 - Winner - Yes really!!!!

3 pages to justify what I would call a typical Brexiter attitude i.e. not taking responsibility for one's fook ups.

Main dealer every time, why should he go to some small shop on your say so ?Hard Brexit now!

Nicely shoe-horned in, but the responses don't validate your statement.Originally posted by sasguru View Post3 pages to justify what I would call a typical Brexiter attitude i.e. not taking responsibility for one's fook ups.
