Cladding pulled from sale worldwide linky

Arconic said on Monday that is was discontinuing Reynobond PE, the aluminium cladding with a plastic core that was revealed as flammable in the wake of the blaze that killed at least 79 people in west London.

The firm said it had stopped global sales of the cladding for tall buildings over concerns about the “inconsistency of building codes across the world”.
I guess the saying "There is no such thing as bad publicity" isn't true in this case.

75 tower blocks have now failed fire safety tests for cladding, Javid says

Sajid Javid, the communities secretary, is now making a statement to MPs about the tests being carried out on cladding on tower blocks following the Grenfell Tower fire.

Javid says cladding on 75 tower blocks from 25 council areas has now failed fire safety tests for cladding. He says that is a 100% failure rate; no cladding has been tested that has passed. Twenty four hours ago 60 tower blocks had failed the tests.
He says the government is now encouraging private landlords to get their cladding tested. (The current programme only covers social housing.) The government will test cladding for free, he says.
'Encouraging' - how nice. No mention of emergency legislation.

One expects a landlord to do the right thing.

Btw there is some tenant/landord swap program on Wednesday on BBC 1

                    Just hearing on the radio.

In 23 flats on the 11th-24th floor there are no survivors.

The police are using 999 calls of which there are 26, some will be duplicates, fast-food orders and other orders to try to work out the total number of people who have died. With the 999 calls they will listen to see how many of the people on them said they were with other people. The police have said that the list Kensington and Chelsea Council provided is out of date.

Encouraging is enough. Were a fire to occur you would still end up with a manslaughter charge which is why Premier Inn are so concerned about 3 of their hotels...
