I have never understood the reason for not putting out your stall with these negotiations, what is she going to do when negotiations start suddenly surprise the EU with requests they hadn't thought of? All this strategy will do is delay everything.
Brexit is not a major concern in the EU reading through many of the headlines here you would think it's a non event. Freach and German elections dominate the press and next in line is the Greek repayment deadline.

So you think the EU member states will be celebrating the fact that one of their key members is about to tell them goodbye? Their elections are important locally, naturally enough: there's not a lot of coverage of them in the UK press though so clearly they aren't important at all...

Also some resolution to Greece's problems is key to the Euro surviving as a viable currency, the alternative being to boot them out of the Euro and go back to the Drachma, which will not exactly send a positive message either.

German colleagues I have spoken to are saddened by Britain's intention to leave, but, their main point now is... just get on with it and leave so that Europe can move forward

They don't hold high hopes that Britain will be better off outside the EU, but on the otherside are open minded that if it does lead to something positive then that will be great

Main thing is, they want Britain to get Brexit over with as soon as possible so that everybody can move forward.

To add something, they see no reason why a Brexit Britain should enjoy the same benefits as an EU Britain has.

It's not a strategy. It's a position taken because they don't know what they are doing, and they want to minimise the ability of parliament to hold the executive to account.

The Brexit vote was a simple one - in or out. Parliament (after May had to be dragged to the Supreme Court to allow them to debate it) approved the bill to leave.
