Anyone here had dennal implants done?

I have to have a molar extracted that will leave me with little left to chew on. I could get a bridge done but I don't like the idea of haveing the 2 healthy teeth either side getting filed down to stumps to support the bridge.

So it's an implant and it'ss cost in the region of £3k.

First question - is it an uncomfortable procedure?

Second question - I could probably get it done in India for a fraction of the price and get a holiday thrown in too. Anyone done this and lived to tell the tale?

Is it your first molar to go?
If so, leave it. Only consider it an issue if you're looking at more fingers than teeth.

Wow. Never thought to post this on CUK but I have the same issue.

I was quoted 2.5k or have it pulled and be left with an unsightly mess.

How having my tooth pulled means I get left with NorthernLadyUk I do not know.

Just had one done. Cost me £1900. It was a replacement for a tooth which had root canal surgery which was likely botched, leaving some of the nerve in there to slowly go awfully wrong, requiring horse tranquilisers and emergency removal. Not ever having root canal again...

To your queries.
1. Uncomfortable? Well, yes. it's dentistry, it's just about always uncomfortable, apart from the times it's bloody sore. This was no worse than uncomfortable, I'd say
2. I looked at Hungary on the basis of it being a fairly advanced dentistry culture over there (arguably better in this respect than the UK outside of London). Bottom line though was the extra day travelling each way would have eaten into my billable days, thus more than wiping out any saving. I also didn't like the idea of not being able to get back to the perpetrator/dentist easily if I needed some after care.

I'm still at the stage of having a vague worry about a dull pain I occasionally get in my lower jaw, and my tongue keeps wandering over to the new tooth to check out what it's doing there. Somewhat disconcerting. Overall though, I don't regret it.

No, I did one and it's not uncomfortable.

You need to wait around 3 months after the extraction in order to gain bone tissue. The implant is done with local anesthesia and you don´t feel anything. The dental crown is inserted into the implant after 2 or 3 months. In the first year or two, maybe will need to tighten the crown screw (you know when you start to feel some pain), after that you will forget that you have an implant.

The surgery should be done by an implant specialist.
