I think many people fear that NI contributions will amount to nothing as the goalposts (retirement age) are moved and possibly destroyed before many of the current workers (who are paying for today's retirees) get to retirement. -

There is a myriad of laws, technologies, and data to resolve this tomorrow.
But the government can't be arsed.
Same goes for cash in hand, only when they are also signing on do they get bothered and investigate.
A 2012 estimate puts lost taxes with cash in hand £2b a year.
