Interesting that the Lords thought the rights of EU nationals more important than those of UK nationals. Shows which planet they are on.

We could end up with Scoots and Darmy being repatriated. Did the Lords consider that?

The Lords want there to be a guarantee for those EU citizens already here with regards to residency, but there have been no guarantees from the EU about British citizens based there. Which is why the PM has not guaranteed their rights as it could potentially lead to EU citizens staying here and also British citizens having to move back.

Probably because the EU can't do that until the UK has invoked Article 50. This is just the UK discussing their Brexit bill.
Brexit is having a wee in the middle of the room at a house party because nobody is talking to you, and then complaining about the smell.

The Lords can only discuss what happens in the UK not what happens in the EU, did you consider that?

What about the rights of Brits living abroad? This is exactly what the Lords are considering when discussing the rights of EU citizens living in the UK.

Something the Brexit ilk should have considered before voting.

This is indeed correct, so perhaps the amendment should say that the rights of EU citizens will be guaranteed as long as reciprocal arrangements are agreed with the respective countries in the EU. Rather than seeking to guarantee their rights before any agreement has taken place.

Too sensible for this lot. If this had been suggested I'm sure the commons would have accepted it. As it is it will just be kicked out.

Of course the EU won't enter into discussions until A50 is notified which is why we shouldn't offer anything without reciprocation.

The Remnant dunderheads think they are morally superior though and put themselves at risk. Darmy and Scoots could be kicked out of the Motherland and we would have no come back. Lose, lose.

It comes back to using millions of people as hostages. Which is the kind of ugly politics that seems okay to Brexiters, but should be deplorable to everyone else in the modern world. This is why the Lords amended the bill, and Harriet Harman (urgh) tried to amend the bill.

Has anyone considered what happens if EU nationals don't get to stay? Are we really going to hire hundreds of thousands of more police to tackle the task of hunting them all down and forcibly deporting them? And what happens to businesses, or property, or children, or whatever else they leave behind? Of all the dumb parts of Brexit to actually go through with that would be crazy.
Will work inside IR35. Or for food.

I'm pretty certain that there is some kind of Brexit gene which seems to have infected some of the UK population so that they have no idea of how stupid they make themselves look...Probably Cambridge Analytics used some form of brainwashing or subliminal messaging in their assistance to the Leave campaign.
