48% voted against Brexit and many people did not vote or were not allowed to vote because they were under 18 These have to be taken into consideration. So let's hope the Lords are not as scared for the bullies as the MPs and give it a real hard time

The Tories have done more damage to the economy than Labour ever. Cameron's legacy: Tripled the national debt, burnt bridges with our closest EU neighbours, destroyed the opportunities for the young, drive the divide between rich and poor to the widest point ever. To top it off the NHS is at near collapse but everybody is too busy with the Brexit nonsense to notice. Probably part of the plan. Meanwhile we position ourselves with a protectionist sexist misogynist for a drop in food standards and poor quality imports.

It is astonishing how such an important vote was not given a 60/40 win requirement. It's not like we get to choose again in 5-years with a new government. This is an impact that'll go on for generations.

Many of us here have never known a life outside of the EU apart from the old dinosaurs the roam these forums.

One positive thing you can say about the HOL is that at least they're more likely to do what they believe is right rather than do what gets them reelected.

Not that I think they will or should vote against. But at least they might consider the wishes of all the people.

It's not a question of right and wrong, it is a question of voting according to what you believe is the appropriate response. This is extremely hard, especially for MPs balancing party, overall referendum, local constituency, and personal beliefs. Tony Benn said MPs are lent their power by the voters they represent. So if all else fails, MPs should vote according to the outcome of each constituency. What would be the breakdown if that were to happen?

Your figures are absolute Tulipe. The Tories have done nothing of the sort.

WTF would we need a 60% vote to leave? Democracy is one person one vote. Everyone equal, not skewed 60/40 in favour of one side.

The Majority voted to leave. I was in the loosing camp and was bitterly disappointed by the outcome but that's democracy and now the process MUST begin. Having said that I've got no doubt that when the reality of things finally hits the govt(and the deluded 'We can have our cake and eat it' brigade)we will finally find out just how weak our hand really is. Geroge Osborne's speech during this debate was quite telling....

Nobody was bullied into anything. The people voted and that's that.

If the Lords, that group of appointed cronies and title inheritors, decides to block this then they should be removed forthwith. We will get rid of the socialist self-important for good.

Indeed, but I'm looking forward to it.

I voted for the pro-EU, Cameron led, pro-austerity Tories, and as far as I'm concerned that's the government I'd like to still have. Labelling what we have now as Tory is kind of unfair; it's a UKIP government, and one nobody voted for. Yes I know we voted for the party and not the person, blah blah blah, but a new leader shouldn't be able to fundamentally change direction in the middle of their term. That amounts to a coup d'etat.

Not that a GE would change much at this point. It'd probably give UKIP an even bigger majority.
