In our democracy, the party that wins the most parliamentary seats (as chosen by the electorate), becomes the Government of the day.

That Party can then decide, at any given time, provided certain criteria are in place, who they wish to be the Leader, and hence the Prime Minister.

That Prime Minister then forms a Government to act in the best interests of ALL the electorate, regardless of how they voted in the GE.

If you can't grasp that fundamental principle, then maybe you are not cut out for rational debate. Stick to mass debating.

Your new claim is that the PM and the government are supposed to act in the best interest of the people.

Speaking for 100% of the people is not the same as acting in the best interest of the people.

But as all politicians are aware of, to stay in power, you only need to act in the best interests of ~40% of the electorate - or less, if you can convince people that they can move into the class of people getting a good deal.

The Prime Minister, the Government, parliament etc. are all supposed to represent all the people of the UK, but in practice, they don't. Little confusing for some I know, but that is how it works in the UK ... and most of the rest of the world. Ah to be an idealistic, naive youth once more.

She does. They may not all like what she says, but that does not alter the fact that she speaks on behalf of them.

Your argument so far has been that she is.

I have friends who would say she is not speaking for them. They would argue that what she says in not totally true.
Because we live in a democracy, they are allowed to argue that the PM does not always speak for them. They can have different views to the PM without risking imprisonment or death. They are allowed to speak for themselves.
