Still, nice to see HMG has abandoned that particular load of bollocks and switched to threatening hostages instead. That always works
It does however the EU has refused to discuss EU citizens in the UK leaving us in a difficult position, if we agree to give them a right to remain unilaterally we might end up with Scooter, Darmy & Assguru deported to the UK

Oh look here is a story about it for our squirrel bothering friend.

Theresa May hits out at EU leaders over refusal to negotiate amnesty for European citizens already living in the UK

The Prime Minister wants to do a deal with the EU guaranteeing after Brexit the rights of their citizens already living in the UK – as long as they do the same for British expats.

However, her counterparts in the EU have refused to conduct a negotiation, saying that there will be no discussion of the issue until the Prime Minister triggers Article 50, which begins formal Brexit talks with Brussels.
Maybe the EU citizens we are apparently holding hostage should speak to their politicians & get them round the table?

And as the EU won't discuss UK passport holders status in the EU, what are they classed as? Visitors?

I'm afraid your Stalinist state is to blame.

I'm starting to think ATW was actually in favour of the USSR and only came to the EU when it broke up. He's now in fear the EU, which is really the same as the USSR, will also split. Desperation stakes.

The EU has not "refused to discuss" anything. It has pointed out that, according to the treaties to which the UK is signatory, such discussions cannot begin until the British government invokes Article 50. Why anybody thinks the rulebook should be torn up simply to make life easier for an unelected Prime Minister seeking to enact a policy that was never stated before the referendum, I don't know.

Perhaps May should add "and a pony" to her list of demands, as she's more likely to get that than to get the EU to discard its principles and international treaties just to make her happy.

The reason the headline writers put that bit in quotes is to indicate that it isn't what really happened, it's what the politicians would like you to believe happened. Well known journalistic shorthand.

                    Fair enough from Merkel really.

I suppose we'll all just have to put up with another 80 days of rubbish newspaper speculation until Mrs May finally has to unveil the Boris whizzo exit plan.......
