It's a "thing". It's not a step on the way to a central bank, which is what you seemed to be suggesting. -
I was suggesting that things like a central bank and a currency are being put in place because we lost in 2014. The link was an example of how things are starting to progress on the financial side of things. The SNP as well as the wider grassroots Yes movement have been working on the economic case since then.Originally posted by jamesbrown View PostIt's a "thing". This is close to the mark:
"It is surely time, therefore, for the Scottish government to commit to creating a Scottish pound supported by its own central bank. That would not preclude the monetary authorities of an independent Scotland from shadowing sterling, just as the Danish central bank shadows the euro. "

It's well documented that Polish folk living in Scotland were told by Better Together that in the event of Independence they would have to go home as Scotland would be outside the EU.Originally posted by scooterscot View PostIf you breakdown the 55% that voted no you'll find the majority of them were not Scot's. In fact they were mostly EU nationals, and folks from England. What's the housing situation like in Scotland? I get a feeling 16 million people might want to move up there if they gain independence. I imagine a great many number of concerned EU nationals will likely vote for independence this time round.
Very interesting times ahead.
Old folk were told they would lose their pensions.
Banks said workers would lose their jobs if we voted Yes and they would move HQs to London
All these people voted No out of fear.
We were told that HMRC would close Scottish offices if we voted Yes - they closed them anyway HMRC closures could see loss of 2,500 Scots jobs - The Scotsman
We were told type 26 frigates wouldn't be built if we voted Yes - they were shelved anyway Type 26 delay called ‘an absolute disgrace’ after MoD admission - The Scotsman
Steelworkers were told they would lose their jobs if we voted Yes - The steelworks closed down anyway but were saved by the Scottish Government - Scottish steel boost as Nicola Sturgeon re-opens iconic Dalzell works - Daily Record
Brexit will be a disaster for Scotland - https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/...st-2000-a-head
All the arguments against Scottish Independence have been destroyed by the Tories in the last two years. They have nothing else to frighten us with now the economy has gone down the pan with Brexit.
Everything Westminster vowed during Indyref - more powers, etc - haven't been delivered. They said we should lead, not leave the UK but we are being dragged out of the EU against our will and the Tories will do it without it going through parliament.Comment

We are not pining after a long lost empire. We are not looking for political muscle. We only want to run our own affairs for the benefit of the people of Scotland. wonder why the SNP haven't started running their own affairs with the powers they have got?Originally posted by Batcher View PostWe are not pining after a long lost empire. We don't have the powers we need to run our own affairs. We are tied to the block grant so if we raise income tax it reduces the amount of the block grant we get so we are no better off.Originally posted by vetran View Postwonder why the SNP haven't started running their own affairs with the powers they have got?Comment

Can you list what the Scottish government can and can't do? Doesn't it have control over health, education, policing...Originally posted by Batcher View PostWe don't have the powers we need to run our own affairs. Yes, but most of the rest is reserved. We can't change VAT, Corporation Tax, etc. We will be able to change the Air Passenger Duty rate. Our Police & Fire Services are liable for VAT but English/Welsh/NI are not - https://www.cchdaily.co.uk/hmrc-warn...ps76m-vat-billOriginally posted by The_Equalizer View PostCan you list what the Scottish government can and can't do? As long as they don't invest it in one of the fine "Scottish" banks. UK taxpayer owned banks, btw - that should make for some interesting negotiations, how much should we charge them to buy back their own banks?Originally posted by tomtomagain View PostYou clearly don't understand anything. What they look forward to is a bright and prosperous future, freed from the shackles of the oppressive English.
And will be supported in their old age by the income from the massive oil-backed sovereign wealth fund that will be established on day 1.
