As someone already mentioned the government will be very careful not to count the figures, otherwise they'll have to release them. My guess is in a couple of years we won't be able to move for lucky heather sellers.

Already the lower paid indigenous population here is complaining. Much ado about nothing ay ? I really hope you're right Viktor. Because if you're wrong ??
Don't get me wrong. I am against an influx of low-skilled migrants from Ro and Bg...there are some places in Romania which I really hate, to be honest (btw I am Romanian). But what I see now is hysteria and racial hate in a country which was supposed to be open-minded...I can see the problems every day and for sure immigration is not 100% benefic.
There are many kinds of immigrants. It is up to you to choose the right profiles and apply the rules. BUT NOT BY DISCRIMINATION...APPLY THE SAME RULES FOR ALL!!
Take for example self-employment...make a rule that states: you need £5.000 start-up capital or professional qualifications to be self employed if you are a citizen of EU (I repeat, CITIZEN OF EU, not A2, A8, bull tulip OKAY?) So if you are a Polish plumber without cash or a Romanian builder with empty pockets, you can't register for self-employment. If you are a Romanian IT contractor and have the dosh, what is the problem? Apply the same rules for French, Italians, Germans...all the good old EU...
At the end of the day, many Romanians will not come...the bad press has done the damage...but you will find yourself with all the riff-raffs coming in and all the skilled ones heading for other places, if they want to leave the country (for skilled immigrants the problem is not 100% related to money).
As for me, I think I head to the point where enough is enough...I might leave the UK next year, so you will count one "A2 national" less...The rest is silence...Comment

You illustrate my point perfectly. This country was and has been open minded for many generations. Enjoying a modicum of sensible immigration and integration.
But the wholesale immigration on the scale we've witnessed and will witness again soon, has and will have an extremely adverse affect on much of the indigenous population.
So when those fair and open minded people discover that their stoic attributes have been exploited to the extent they start losing their livlihoods, it is ridiculous to expect them not to voice their resentment & hatred toward those they feel responsible for betraying their open mindedness..
Most people rightly do not blame those east europeans who are merely taking the opportunities our deceitful Gov't and employers present to them.
As I say, I hope your 'much ado about nothing' is correct. But I fear you have already identified it is not all about nothing. You've already spied the under current of resentment that is building. (Excuse the pun)Last edited by BobTheCrate; 2 November 2006, 14:41.Comment

Isn't unfettered immigration just another step on the road to our politicians aims of an EU Superstate?
The EU constitution and Euro currency was scuppered by people not wanting to lose their national identity. Once that national identity no longer exists as we have been overrun by tides of immigrants, then we have no reason for resisting the surrender to Brussels.
The EU is like the Borg, only scarier. Resistance is futile, you will be assimilated.Boom boom boom boom
