In Islamic tradition, cats are admired for their cleanliness. They are thought to be ritually clean, unlike dogs, and are thus allowed to enter homes and even mosques, including Masjid al-Haram. Food sampled by cats is considered halal and water from which cats have drunk is permitted for wudu.

The Myth of the Clean Pet Mouth

The problem with human mouths (and probably how we got to thinking that our mouths were dirtier than pets’ mouths) came up for discussion when it was reported that human-on-human bites suffered higher rates of infection than dog- or cat-on-human bites.

Although this myth was eventually debunked (almost nothing beats a cat bite), the human-mouths-are-dirtier idea has stuck.
Always forgive your enemies; nothing annoys them so much.
