I used to know the owner, although I suspect he would be on his 5th liver by now.
Pub is still there. Depends how long ago you knew the owner though. It was sold last year. Owner before that was Chas McCusker but prior to him was before my time.
When freedom comes along, don't PISH in the water supply.....

        Chas was a proper hun

Was a good boozer when he had it. Small place so it was kind of like his living room. Open fire, tv on and Chas's crap jokes

I've lived on a remote Scottish island (Uist) and can confirm that attitudes to race/sexuality are firmly set somewhere around the 1950s..

He used to abuse me if he caught me in his house with a Celtic top on I got on quite well with him.

Uist and Bute are hardly the same though. Lots of people here commute to Glasgow daily. I've done it myself when I worked for NAG. With Uist you're stuck there and leaving is a major expedition.

                FTFY

We've had to put up with racist jibes at the English (from Scots) since the dawn of time, so "if you can't take it, try to be a bit more sparing on the dishing it out" front...

And make sure you stock up on a Friday because by 10am Saturday the shops will be empty and on Sunday they will be closed!

Funny story about leaving the island actually, my family lived there for quite a while, though I only went up after GCSEs to do Highers before going on to college. While I was up there I was friends with the Ferry captains son who lived just round the corner from my parents (Its uist so just round the corner was about 2 miles) anyway, one summer I had gone back to visit, when leaving I was running late and when I got to the pier (as a foot passenger) the ferry had already cast off and was about 10 meters out. I was obviously aiming to be on that ferry (I had a back pack and had run to the pier) and Im sure some of the tourists were taking great delight in the fact that I was stood there as they set off... I swear some of them actually waved at me.

However, Loch Maddy is a small village and everyone knows everyone else, I didn't even have to ask before one of the guys on the pier was on the radio and the ferry STOPPED and came back for me... there's a lot to be said for tight knit communities

Actually, its not that funny... but it makes me smile.

Full disclosure, I am Scottish, I live in England. I get to take the piss out of everyone (Especially the Welsh).

You are very welcome Sir, and feel free to abuse the Welsh at your leisure...
