Should we arm all UK police with guns?

Agreed but we would no doubt have far more casualties than they do, probably at least 5 foldOriginally posted by DaveB View Post
Having armed police on the streets in Germany didn't stop the latest nutter, nor did it make a difference in France with the Charlie Hebdo shootings or the Bataclan theatre shootings.Comment

Doubt it. Net result will be more deaths by gunfire in the UK, both innocents and criminals.Originally posted by PurpleGorilla View PostMight save a few lives when the nutters go on the rampage...The Chunt of Chunts.Comment

You only have to see the arms escalation that occurred in the USA from the wild west to the present day to see that a starting point of everyone with a handgun ends up with everyone with an assault rifle. An arms race instigated by the authorities that means the crims need to be tooled up so the police need bigger guns, so the crims get bigger guns, so the population want bigger guns to defend their home.
The solution in the UK is already being implemented, to have more dedicated specialist trained armed teams on call for fast response, or already on duty at big events. As an aside, that CTSFO babe can save my life anytime I'm next at Wembley.
I'd rather accept that not all incidents can ever be stopped in a 'free' society than see that society change for the worse and each time an incident occurs be grateful I wasn't in the wrong place at the wrong time, if I continue to have such good fortune.
Maybe the change we need is a tougher crackdown on illegal arms in the UK (and being smuggled into the UK) with an amnesty like they did before to get the numbers down. We seem to have a big enough problem with knife crime. I'd hate to see those nutjobs have easier access to guns.Maybe tomorrow, I'll want to settle down. Until tomorrow, I'll just keep moving on.Comment

Gun crime is a lot less in Canada, despite the prevalence of guns.Originally posted by Hobosapien View PostYou only have to see the arms escalation that occurred in the USA from the wild west to the present day to see that a starting point of everyone with a handgun ends up with everyone with an assault rifle. It's a cultural thing, shoot the Indians, Mexicans, British, Blacks, each other, home boy.
Clearly I am in the minority, but I would like to see all police armed with pistols.Comment

Well at least she is effectively in a Burkah so she won't offend some of the terrorist types.Originally posted by Hobosapien View PostThe solution in the UK is already being implemented, to have more dedicated specialist trained armed teams on call for fast response, or already on duty at big events. Maybe they won't get their 72 virgins if they're martyred by a women. What does their misogyny manual say about that?

Guns are so archaic, got to be better solutions in modern or upcoming technology.
Something like a human EMP that puts everyone within a certain distance to sleep. Deployed by EMP proof drone.
