Minimum of £110 for Manchester to London on a Monday morning, £41 ish coming back Friday afternoon (off peak).
Looking at the other options....
Megabus - £11 (but no, obviously, not for contractors)
Driving - fuel but mileage claim helps, even at the lower rate, plus parking at London
Flying - unless you're working out the west side (e.g. pharms at Brentford, Sky at Osterley, etc.) then it's going to take a while to actually get to work because Manchester to Heathrow is the only option, while the fecking yokels in Exeter get a flight into LCY!
Drive to Crewe for their 5:11 to London that costs £16. How the hell is that so much cheaper than the 5:05 from Manchester?
While you can put a deposit on a hotel, or have a 48 hour cancellation policy, you've got to commit to the full train ticket price when you buy it, so risking two months in advance at this.
Driving it is then.
