I've had the old fire going for a few weeks now, getting through a reasonable amount of coal\wood

That all depends just how cold it is

My wife is obsessed with de-icer (not bloody going near my car, I value my paint!!!)

I usually do that but I didn't check the temperature before I went out to the car, then I couldn't be bothered. The forecast says -4 tonight...

She didn't hand out candies last night as 'Its too cold'.

This is the same woman who wants to move to Canada.
Hah, one blast of an Alberta Clipper would remove any desire to go to Canada (except in the Summer). When we lived near Chicago, the winds coming down from Canada took the temp. down as low as -40 F in still air, and -86 F with wind chill. So cold you can't breath through your mouth, so a heavy cold can cause you real problems!

The mosquitos will remove any desire to stay in Canada in the summer!

Whacked all the heating up to max...was 21 deg. C, but now 30 deg. C.

Turned up the heating on the waterbed to the same, and forgot that my self-heated side was hotter than her self-heated side and cooked the poor missus in the night :-)

Hate the cold...abhor it with a passion. I like to be permanently warm as much as possible.
Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

No heating on here - I am saving money for a deposit to buy an overpriced house.

It's okay - I stole them from a nun next door.

                      Hope it's not a sin...
