Well, everything else has been watered down by overuse, i.e. w*nker is practically a term of endearment these days. And sometimes, you just need a proper swear word.
It is curious to me that the only really 'offensive' word left in the English Language is slang for female genitalia not male as mentioned by Halo Jones. I'm sure there's a bunch of disturbing psychosocial reasons for that.Comment
