Not a chance. I say that as a engineer working in aircraft safety.

Before it can happen you have to be able to demonstrate the likelihood of a 1/5000 chance of avoiding a car crash and not dying. That's with you at the wheel or not (passenger or other road user).

4 years is never enough time to gather that much history.

      In any case!

Why do we want self driving cars? I actually like driving.

3D printed buildings already a reality. Who wouldn't want it considering labour costs, safety & precision.
There was a company called Gateway 40 years ago that made cnc homes poor management seemed to do for them.

Self driving cars are just around the corner 5 years.

What's the bet 3D printed homes will be for the poor and the top end of the market will have nothing to do with them?

I'd put good money down that the roads will not be full of self driving cars by 2020.

The UK has spent the last 15 years debating a high speed train line to Birmingham. 20 for a third runway for Heathrow. Yet in 5 years the roads will be kitted out for autonomous cars?

There will be self driving cars but a human will still need to be able to take control just like in aircraft.

And for exactly that reason you'll have more accidents. People will loose driving experience. You takeover at the time of need and respond incorrectly. It'll never take off I tell you.

As one of the first outings for 3d printed homes was a luxury hotel I suspect the rich will love the freedom to create the outrageous will be a big seller. Maybe you will see a piano shaped house for Elton & a Quiff shaped Golf club for Trump.

You are getting confused, planes take off, cars drive along.

I think you are wrong. Reminds me of this:

Computers will drive the cars, there won't be a requirement for humans to take control after a few years have passed without major incident...

But planes are very small, I see when I look up. Cars are much bigger. Or is that nearer.
