If someone is driving like an idiot, its the police
If there isn't enough school places, its the government
If parents can't get into a school within walking distance, is the government

What is comes down to is the want of certain communities to give a certain section of that community priority access to local education at the exclusion of the "awkard" ones. Such as the disabled, the poor or the people who have just moved to the village in that estate that hurt all their house prices.

You are putting "parents" into a category that makes the school the ones responsible for dealing with day to day issues. Not only that you are going further by saying the behaviour of those parents should also have a direct impact on a child's access to education. You can't see how barmy that is ?

Parking offences are the councils ultimate responsibility. Driving offences is down to the police.

At no point did I remotely suggest a parent (or anyone) shouldn't be reasonable for their actions. Its the flawed concept you should adjust school admissions to drive behaviour change. FFS, schools are their to teach kids, nothing more!

While you are right to say there is a difference between an idiot person who doesn't drive or park properly and a disabled person (although that doesn't stop the disable person being a an idiot as well). What I am pointing out is the massive legal issues which will come out of using the wrong tools to enforce laws on parking and driving. Its going to have a big impact on the ones who our innocent.

Apart from arguing through this thread that parents should be allowed to do what they want to get their kids to school, and arguing that asking parents to get their children to walk to school is wrong.
So, back to where you started your argument. SueEllen was pointing out that the school was enforcing measures after it asked parents not to get into altercations with residents, parking wardens and the police.


If a person will not change their actions after police intervention, then what do you do? How do you stop a person from being a nuisance to residents and those trying to do their job?

Lost you a bit there... But if little Jonny is too far away to get a place due to the reasonable admission policy based on distance from the school, who cares how he gets to the school he can't come to anyway?

The point is he needs to go somewhere for school. Depending on the age of the kid, physical capability and distances involved walking might not be an option. Basing it on walking would be madness and totally unfair.

Ultimately you are confusing a number of issues. You would of thought the average contractor would understand the term, division of responsibilities and be capable to divide issues into it component parts - instead of just going all middle class Daily Mail.

It's not failure to understand the issues is being happy that the schools entry chaps choose any excuse they like to keep the undesirables out the way. I think thats a sensible approach. As you say its down to the council to provide a place and that doesn't have to suit the parents.

Little Jonny wasn't too far away at the time. He lived 4 miles up the road but even then there was an agreement with the more agreeable parents that the kids got dropped off away from the school and walked the last half a mile in a group, but that was when the village was half its size and there were more than enough spaces for three schools to actively WANT kids to come so they could claim the funding. However in a year or two little Jonny's brother will be tulip out of luck as there will be parents in walking distance that probably won't be able to get a space. The new builds will be much closer to the school than the rest of the village so its the established families that would get the kicking in this case. We already have our allotted number of affordable housing, and the stock is quite nice. They are tucked out the back of nowhere with nothing to annoy apart from themselves and some sheep. Our village council worked with the council planners and chose to build them first because we thought it was a sensible thing to do. The rest of the stuff going up will be quite expensive. The first five at the bottom of the village have already sold for between 425 and 650k each, not exactly a drag on any house prices.

I read what you wrote, I also read how you chose to misrepresent others (including myself) and when you were called out on it you resorted to personal insults and now calling others trolls.

The kids in that year are now out of the primary/junior school so not sure where he ended up. Its probably worth noting that we have schools in all our local villages so from our point of view taking kids from the surrounding villages when they all had their own schools seems pointless thus the emphasis on not driving to the school gates. Our kids are now at the secondary / 6th form and they too have busses organised so that no one in the surrounding area needs to drive kids near the schools. there will still be 50 or so cars outside of an evening but in a school of 1500 thats not so bad...
