All of that is pretty typical of any IT project in a large organisation. In fact, isnt that why highly paid contractors hired in the first place ? Permies cannot deliver so specialist contractors are hired at 10 times the cost so that the project gets delivered. So do your job and get the project delivered on time or else go permie.

^This.Originally posted by suityou01 View PostSo, I need a CUK mentor to advise me on what to do. Do I work to rule and let the project fail, or take pride in being a contractor and show them who da man?
.
The permies will tulip on you for the rest of their miserable lives, but the pay masters know the reality.
And yes, it being a client based in Bolton, I would first check whether they can pay you for what you have done so far

I've deeply considered the problems that you're facing, and I'm absolutely certain that you must either
a) Work to rule
or
b) Work your arse off to save the project without gaining any recognition or benefit to yourself, but could produce personal growth - like a stress induced cancer.

It doesn't get much more surreal than that.Originally posted by DimPrawn View PostSuity and Wilmslooooooooooow swapping contractor advice.
Suity, are you sure you are really cut out to be a contractor? Make a decision man and stop grubbing about desperately seeking direction on an anonymous forum.

Interesting. Yes. Good idea. What happens if the manager in question is of the same disposition as the permies and isn't that fussed either?Originally posted by DimPrawn View PostBut if Suity did that, this little storm in a teacup wouldn't have all this dramatic end of the world bollox would it? Then what would poor Suity post on CUK?
@Suity - Present the facts without emotion, keep invoicing as long as you can. MTFU. AYCOTBAC?

I was hired as the technical lead, but the PM (who didn't interview me) thought I was was just another developer. So the first 2 months we were on 2 different pages and he wondered who this cocky upstart was that kept telling him what he needed in terms of resource.Originally posted by Wilmslow View Post<suity snip>
Do you have the authority delegated you need to manage the resources?
<suity snip>
I escalated to the IT director, was then given a team, and then the PMs would undermine me on a daily basis, arrange meeting and make decisions without me. Bad decisions not grounded in any technical merit that had to all be reversed. I was not in charge, and had not support. As such I had it out with them and agreed to stay on as a development resource and technical advisor.Knock first as I might be balancing my chakras.Comment

Why do you only post about failures on CUK?
You must have had loads of successes? Why not post about them?
I hope you are still invoicing?Comment

Ah, then it sounds like a classic case of poor management.Originally posted by suityou01 View PostI escalated to the IT director, was then given a team, and then the PMs would undermine me on a daily basis, arrange meeting and make decisions without me.
