Asad Shah was my local newsagent and handled our paper deliveries. It is fair to say I have been pretty down over his murder.

I know people always get some level of beatification upon death but this guy really was the real deal, always asked how the family was, always shook your hand, always had a smile. I was never aware of his religion but I assumed it was Abrahamic and some non standard branch. You used to get a Christmas card written and printed by him about peace, respect and love. It was like George Harrison had taken over your local paper shop.

To know the details of his death and to know the suspect drove 200 miles to commit the murder is hard to take, suicide belts have a certain unipersonal nature, it is the opposite with this murder.

So let's get down to standard CUK business here...

The same day Asad Shah was murdered the BBC broke a story that the head iman at the local mega mosque was preaching a bit of blasphemer murder over WhatsApp.

5000 congregation, all trying to tell us it is a 'moderate' mosque until we get digital evidence the head chap is a complete rocket.

As I've said before, we need to ditch these very broad terms. Asian, Black, Muslim etc. It is always far more complex than that. That nice shopkeeper chap was an Ahmadi, they are no problem. Persecuted and outcast in Sunni Pakistan.

Because he posted a message of peace love and tolerance for Muslims and Christians alike. Have you not read any of the reports?

And that's enough for a Muslim extremist to kill?

Mind you I suppose if you can blow up kids in a play ground...

You genuinely are glacially slow on the uptake.

Yes it is. That's why they're called 'extremists'. Are there any other basic terms or concepts we can help you with?
