Yes there are - but if she moved there then her friends would no longer talk to her because she no longer fit into the acceptable demograph of people they associated with.
Agreed. But we are now at the stage where a starter home in London is 400,000. Go look at the evening standard.

The issue now is about people who cannot get on the ladder anywhere where they can get a job without putting themselves into debt slavery.

SueEllen has the answer. To buy a private property you need to have a NI number.

Personally I would like to see an end of mortgage tax relief against rental property. And taxes on rental income from property.

To be fair I read it somewhere.

I was interested in, particularly after working abroad, why other European countries didn't have a problem.

The answer is to put in place measures to ensure everyone who brought a property is a long term resident regardless of whether they were a citizen of the country, another European national or from elsewhere in the world.

Measures then need to be put in place to:
            1. Charge people a hell of a lot if they leave the property empty. Obviously some people will let their staff live in it but that's fine as they are housing someone.
            2. Penalise people for having second homes that aren't lived in for x% of the year.

This is why some people are advocates of land value tax as you have more scope for penalising property owners who make areas ghost towns and actually hurting their pocket.

what's happened, this is more like the comments section of the Guardian !

              Milan.

p.s. to tell the truth I think all the DM Readers moved over to the Guardian after the last election and have been having a field day in the Comments of the Politics section of the site.

AFAIK from April 2017 the right to tax relief on rental properties will be curtailed.
And rental income is already taxed.
Furthermore rental properties have been excluded from the capital gains tax threshold increase announced in the last budget.

Are you sure you should be commenting on stuff of which you are totally and completely ignorant?

Well it is General I suppose.

I suppose we should all be feckless twats and rely on the state for provision in our old age.

clause 24 has already done this , mr osbourne is on a which hunt for BTL and the game will be over very soon the bright one`s are selling up already only the self entitled morons who watch too much homes under the hammer will remain , they seem to have the brain power to see the draw bridges being pulled up but not looking far enough into the future.

our government needs tax and BTL is ripe for milking , personally i would set CGT at say 60% and cut housing benefit or landlord lord benefit if you like at 60% less , that will really show the men from the boys

firstly just ban BTL mortgages , it is a sick system that a landlord can take out finance scuppering a FTB to the post only BTL should be owned by cash rich people and i mean 100% cash not the stupid debt junkies we have now.
