Then of course one can "virtue signal" by condemning "the Tories" without trying to analyse anything at all.Hard Brexit now!

The Tories aren't evil per se, they're just crypto-libertarians that are too gutless to come out and say it. Preferring to take down state institutions gradually whilst pretending it's for the benefit of the public, even as they leave them in poverty and enrich themselves.
Parasitism, I think it's called? I guess if you wear a suit it's more appealing than if you're on the dole, though.Comment

Most professional politicians nowadays are parasites, having done little else that qualifies them for the role.
As for "taking down state institutions", if you mean the NHS, it's high time that unfit-for-purpose institution was taken down with its mediocre experience and outcomes, while we model our health system on more succesful models such as that in France, Spain or Germany.
But it won't be possible over the cries of the bien pensant Islingtonites who in any case have private medical insurance and private education up to their gills.
Always amuses me how Lefties tie themselves up in knots with their "post-modernist" thinking - a case in point being Europe, which has really confused them now it seems that Germany is not the poster-boy social-democratic state they liked but rather a villainous "neo-liberal" (whenever someone uses that cliched term it's a sure indicator they're thick as mince) state which insists on living within its means and assumes others will too.
And it has me in stitches when arch-feminists like Naomi Klein and Arundhati Roy claim that Assange is oppressed because he chose to lock himself up so he wouldn't have to answer rape charges. Cognitive dissonance, much?Hard Brexit now!

Whilst I realise the data is a couple of years old, the deficits in France and the U.K. have been similar, so the overall amounts will be similar.
How about Japan...

@sassy Well enjoy your make-believe money. Maybe someday you can spend some of it on "superior health insurance" after your parasitic representatives scrap the NHS.
I'll be up north helping build the wall to try to fend off the refugees fleeing from your successes...Comment

I have private health insurance already - it's enabled me to bypass the horrendous waiting lists on the NHS.
But then I believe in self-reliance and hard work, you know those fuddy-duddy values that aren't relevant anymore because you can just print money and hand it out
Build your wall, just make sure you let out all the energetic and intelligent Scots who'll be flocking South to make their fortune, as they have done for centuries.Hard Brexit now!
