No, of course not, I'm not flying 1st class .

Anyway, I wouldn't want to get the same flight as that total twunt, it would probably be delayed.
It would probably take longer, as well, due to all that extra "cargo".

I had a dose of JSA last year, most humiliating thing I have ever done I only went because I incorrectly thought I had to sign on to maintain my NI payments but apparently not.
You have to jump through many hoops.
The attendance appointments are timed to be inconvenient, never the same time and usually around the time you might be doing the school run but obviously there is sound logic there as it is geared up to upset the professional shirkers.

You have to attend the jobcentre to sign on everyday unless they think you are not a member of the greater unwashed, shell suit types that seem to be the standard customer. Then you can do it via email but still need to go in every two weeks to qualify for the payments

You have to be able to demonstrate in your emails or in your 'agreement' book that you are looking for work for 35 hours a week or they haul you in to account for yourself and may deduct some money via sanctions.

You might be asked to come in every day for an entire week at the start to attend interview techniques and CV writing courses.

And to top it all off the JSA is taxable income so you will lose a lot of it via a code change.
I decided it really isn't worth the effort if you value your sanity and actually really want to use your time productively to look for work.
So now I am worried, am I being deceived, just how much sugar is really in a spoon full!

I was also wondering what you can claim for

If I was to quit clientco in the Summer, what benefits can I get?

Caveat: I've got a half million quid in the bank, does that preclude me?
What happens in General, stays in General.
You know what they say about assumptions!

I don't believe it excludes you from claiming contribution based JSA for up to six months.

Yes you do have to claim to be credited NI. Yes of course its taxable.

Does sound like you have a bad experience here. Nothing at all like most people. But I will admit the experience can be very variable depending on which jobcentre/person. Also, there are times when they appear to be being awkward for the sake of it.

I dunno maybe its the area of the country you live in - where I live there are a very high proportion of scroats who never want to work so I'm guessing they're busy dealing with them but they left me alone.

I've probably claimed 3 times in the last 20 years and each time its followed the same pattern pretty much.

                    1. Phone up to start the claim.

                    2. Fill in the forms and turn up at appointment they give you a few days later.

                    3. Explain what you do etc standard stuff.

Yes they do say you have to look for work etc etc and you have to prove it. You tell them you apply online etc, take calls from agencies - you're supposed to record this and prove it. I offered to print out a spreadsheet but no-one EVER asked to see it.

Yes they do try to flog the old jobcentre website etc but just say yes I'll look.

Like I said before, most jobcentre staff are pleasant enough and have some understanding. OK they dont understand the contracting thing but they do seem to realise that you're somewhat out of the league of the jobcentre sort of work, and they know you are genuinely looking.

                    4. You get given a date to come back once every two weeks at the same time to spent 30 seconds signing on.

                    5. No-one ever hassled you to attend the job every day or go on any courses or such like.

                    6. Only once did they ever phone me about a job. Permie role £15K. I said no thanks - that was it.

                    7. Longest time was three months on JSA and I was due a "review" but I got a gig before it happened.

Now not saying after some time they might change. I understand the rules are they let you do what you want for up to 6 months. After this they do expect you to lower expectations/look for something else which seems fair enough. Of course, if they start pushing for you to take jobs as trolley boy at tesco you can just sign off if you like.

Only hassle I ever had was when I sorted a gig out at 5pm one day to start next day. Of course, was supposed to be signing on at 930am next day. I tried to phone them but they're a nightmare to get through to and of course, I couldnt spend hours on phone first day at new client.

I did get through next day and they said they were refusing my last week payment because I didnt tell them I was starting work. I did explain and asked if they'd rather I hadnt started work that day so as not to inconvenience them but they tried to say no-one gets a job at 5pm and starts next day - yeah right you know contracting do you?? I did get paid in the end though.

Well, I'm taking a break for two months.

I was wondering whether any of you, wise old Owls, know how I will be able to collect my JSA, whilst sunning myself, in the Philippines .

I understand there are probably many of you claiming on the quiet, so, please feel free to allow your sockies to answer on your behalf.

                      Any feedback greatly appreciated.

                      Lots of Love,

                      MarkyMark.
I believe not Mr MM. Whereas you are allowed to take holidays and miss a sign-on day these are limited.

Also, you have to provide contact details in case a job comes up. Used to be you had to be in UK but I think its extended to EU now. Idea being you have to be able to cut short your holiday to take up a job offer.

For the record, I went to Florida after the end of one gig but phoned up to claim before I went and said can I start to claim from this day (day after I got back). They asked why and I told them I was on holidays and aware I couldnt claim when in the USA.
