The EHIC card only gives you the same rights as a citizen of the EU country you are visiting for immediate and clinically necessary treatment. There is a co-pay in many countries. And mostly only 50% of pharmacy bills are refunded after an agonising crawl with the DWP.
Any preplanned or routine surgery has to be pre-approved by the NHS before you leave.
Why do you think there is so much medical tourism in the UK from EU state members?
