Help re acccom and salary in London

Youngfriend just been offered new employed role in London at £45k, single first real job if says yes starts Monday, co pay for hotel for a week or two.

Is this sensible?

Can anyone give advice on this being reas rate for first time job in IT and also where he can find accom down there for a short time whilst looks for an AST maybe?

All comments appreciated. I am a northerner and £45k sounds like a fortune but then 1 months rent would be £350!

On 45K your friend will have to live in outer London, taking a room in a shared house and commute in. If your friend is active then he should cycle to work to save money on fares.

Unfortunately it may take a while to find a room unless he knows other people.

£45k for a first job? The world really has gone mad hasn't it. It's £2785/month take home and a damned sight more than many will ever earn.

More than enough to rent somewhere perfectly pleasant outside London and commute in, and probably enough to find something acceptable in London but I've never really looked as it wouldn't be what I would do.
