In all seriousness the reply from the pimp would have pissed me off, and jobbing 1st/2nd line support rates are low anyway so £100 a day less would make a big impact to the low skilled contractors like PC.

The reply from PC should have remained professional:

    Pimp,

I agree that it sounds like the Client would not be a fit for the valuation of my skills and knowledge, however if you feel you have anything in the future that may be of interest please feel free to get in touch at the time.

    With Thanks

    PC
But then again most people would have shrugged it off and not whinged on an internet forum, or was this your way of boasting that in fact your daily rate is actually at least £75-£100 a day

You stick to your guns PC... I mean.. You are not the type to be remotely interested in gigs with a crap rate are you.. Oh... hang on...

If its wildly out of my skillset, geographical area I don't bother.

Sometimes I will respond if its in my area, or I know the agent, or think they might have stuff in the future. It might be sorry not available at the moment, or sorry doesnt meet my rate. Just to be polite.

So I get this. First thought was you cheeky twat. I politely decline and you accuse me of being a moneygrabber who the client wouldnt be interested in anyway. Crack on then fella and good luck getting someone to do the gig for the love of it.

        Hi Psycho,

If rate is the most important factor for you then I doubt this would be the right role anyway. My client look for candidates to look beyond just what they take home.

        All the best,

        Kind Regards

        Agent

Ah yes. Probably £75-£100 a day less than normal for me I'm afraid.

I believe the rate is lower than what you are looking for if my memory serves me correctly. £x-£y per day.

        Hi agent,
        Whats the rate?

Pretty hard to take an agent with a contract seriously after that. Save that rubbish for permie roles where all the "other stuff" is expected to sway you to taking a low salary.

I'd be tempted to reply "Absolutely, I'm not interested in clients who think they can use phrases like '...candidates to look beyond just what they take home' as some kind of flimsy excuse for not paying market rates".

Agents attitude takes the biscuit :-(

                  Dear Pimp,
I'm looking for the kind of agent who looks beyond rate, so based on your attitude, I would expect that in an effort to get the right person into the role you would forgo your commission to ensure your client sees candidates with quality.
I cannot look beyond your hypocrisy and attitude. This shows me that you are not the right one for me or the client. Both of us are looking for agents who can carry out their business in a professional manner.

                  Lots of Love,

An agent I've worked through in the past (on that occasion I discovered I was on £25 a day less than the other five he'd placed, but hey, my bad) once called about a gig, told me the rate etc. I told him I wasn't available and recommended <contractor B>, who the agent knew. The agent's reply:

                      "<contractor B. won't work for that".

                      Ouch.
