One friend told me she reckoned that the laws of the Union do allow some room for debate in the case of such drastic changes, but neither of us is sure if this is actually the case.

Does anyone know if their are clauses which allow Scotland to trigger another referendum in certain special circumstances?

The converse is also interesting - if English votes are in favour of leaving the EU but Scottish votes are strongly pro-EU and tip the overall result into "stay". Of course the numbers of English and Scots make this less likely but still...
