Scary stuff. But sounds like it's under control. Amazing that there were no direct major casualties. -

It mystifies me is how quickly a fire can spread in such a modern building. Surely we've advanced since Towering Inferno. Wouldn't this place have a solid steel and concrete structure? proper fire doors? fire resistant floors and furniture throughout? sprinklers in very room?bloggoth

We know that health & safety is non-existent for the blokes that build these things. They seem to die in their hundreds! Perhaps the same is true for the guests too. Seems a bit short-sighted if true.Originally posted by xoggoth View PostIt mystifies me is how quickly a fire can spread in such a modern building. Surely we've advanced since Towering Inferno. Quite, slave labour. See this article too. Extensive use of flammable cladding, lax fire safety and corruption that means inspections are fixed.
Huge skyscaper fire in Dubai near New Year's Eve fireworks display - TelegraphUntil Dubai changed its building regulations in 2013, many of the city’s tallest buildings were clad in an aluminium-polyurethane panelling that is highly flammable when exposed to flame or even extreme heat.
Best to avoid these places.Last edited by xoggoth; 1 January 2016, 17:37.bloggoth
