What will the penalty be for those caught walking on the escalator?
Force them to be moved onto a permanent payroll, tax their oyster cards and drain any sense of ambition from them.

What a load of horlicks though. I bet the station staff thought it as daft as everyone else did.
Rather than spending time telling busy people to stand still, they should get down to the piccadilly depots and investigate how they suddenly have a "shortage of trains". Did all the carriages gone on a training course or something?
However, looking at the account of the trial in 2002:
The increased capacity was more due to the walking side constantly shuffling forwards as people felt the need to walk and preferred to tut at people who stood.
TLDR: it works, but getting people to actually do it is hard, and getting them to like it is even harder. It caused "…a great deal of non-verbal communication in the form of head-shaking"
